Google to unveil revamped Google Earth on April 18

Google Earth, the global 3D map software introduced back in 2011, is getting an overhaul on April 18, just four days ahead of Earth day on April 22. Google hasn't dropped any hints on how the new, updated Google Earth would look like, but since Google is doing a special event for the same, major improvements are expected to the service.

The 3D mapping service, which offers detailed satellite imagery of the entire globe, was originally made by Keyhole (which was funded by CIA back in the day). It was originally launched in 2011 under the name EarthViewer 3D, and was later acquired by Google, in 2004. Since its launch, Google has added more features such as Street view, famous buildings, oceans and more in 3D, and can even look up astronomical bodies such as Moon and Mars.

Google Earth even has a flight simulator built in and one can basically start from any airport in any kind of plane and fly to anywhere in the world in simulation. With the new update, we expect Google to keep all the functionalities intact and overhaul the interface design, alongside adding VR support for mobile.
